Warmer Weather Heading to Alabama

Two days after record cold temperatures were set in eight Alabama cities and towns, including Montgomery.  The National Weather Service says we're in for a warming trend over the next few days.  The warmer air is expected to bring a change of strong severe storms to the southern portions of central Alabama late Saturday night and into Sunday morning, forecasters say there is a threat of severe storms, including tornadoes, from 3 a.m. through noon on Sunday.

Republicans on Immigration

Republicans plan to respond today to President Barack Obama's changes in the immigration system that could shield from deportation some five million people living illegally in the U.S.  The Alabama-based Coalition for Immigrant Justice says it's a positive first step, but spokeswoman Evelyn Servin says Congress still needs to move forward on revising immigration policies.  Alabama's Republican dominated congressional delegation have condemned the president's action.

Diamond Suit

A Montgomery County jury has awarded a woman more than $30,000 in damages after she accused an east Montgomery jeweler of swapping a diamond of hers with one of lesser value.  DeeDee Nolan's attorney says Nolan took the diamond to Marquirette's to have it repurposed into an engagement ring for her son.  Her attorney says the jewelers gave her a different diamond.

Drug Raid

A drug raid near Billingsley has landed a 31-year-old man behind bars.  Autauga County Sheriff's Deputies and Prattville Police arrested Ronald Huffman at a residence on County Road One Thursday morning about 7 a.m.  Chief Deputy Joe Sedinger said Huffman is charged with unlawful distribution of a controlled substance.  He said Huffman had been under surveillance for months and was allegedly supplying crack and powder cocaine in four neighboring counties.  Authorities also recovered illegal drugs from Huffman's property.

Autopsy Results

A county coroner in Southwest Alabama says preliminary results of autopsies show that two men found dead after a house fire in Dothan died of gunshot wounds.  Dothan Police previously said authorities believe foul play was likely involved in the November 13th fire.  Houston County Coroner Robert Byrd said one of the men has been identified as 47-year-old George Williams the Third, who lived in Hanover, Maryland.  Byrd said authorities have not yet been able to identify the second man, who also was found dead after the blaze.
