With the holiday travel period kicking off today, Alabama State Troopers will have more vehicles on patrol, looking for traffic violations. In a statement Sgt. Steve Jarrett said during the same time last year 19 people were killed in on the highways. The statement also notes that alcohol was a factor in at least three of those accidents. Nine people failed to wear their seat belt and one infant was not in a child seat. Authorities say they will be watching for speeders, drunk drivers and seatbelt violations. The long holiday period stretches from today all the way through New Year's Day.
