Nonprofit CFO Arrested

The former chief financial officer of an Alabama nonprofit clinic for the poor and homeless has received 17 years in prison for her role in a scheme to defraud the government. In a news release Tuesday US Attorney Joyce White Vance says 50-year-old Terri McGuire Mollica of Birmingham was sentenced to 15 years for an $11 million scheme involving two clinics: Birmingham Health Care and Central Alabama Comprehensive Health in Tuskegee. Between January 2008 and March 2012, Mollica helped divert millions in federal grant money and assets and property of the clinics to numerous private entities. She then transferred money from the entities to herself and others, illegally receiving $1.7 million. She received an additional two years for the aggravated identity theft of a physician on a phony death certificate.
