New Leadership in Montgomery Law Enforcement

For the first time in Montgomery, two African-American men are holding top law enforcement positions.  Derrick Cunningham was officially sworn-in Friday as the first African-American sheriff for Montgomery County.  Cunningham said he looks forward to working with Montgomery's new Police Chief Ernest Finley and the law enforcement community.  Finely will be sworn-in at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 20th at the City Hall Auditorium.

Free Tickets

Two local banks have joined a national effort to provide Montgomery middle and high school student with free tickets to see the movie "Selma."  First Tuskegee Bank and Liberty Bank are encouraging Montgomery students to see the civil rights drama.  Students in Montgomery who present a current student ID or report card can watch the film free of charge at AMC Festival Plaza and Carmike at Chantilly.

Tax Fraud

A Montgomery woman joins the growing list of individuals in the Middle District of Alabama who have been found guilty of stealing identities and filing fraudulent income tax returns.  A federal jury this week found 38-year-old Tarrish Tellis guilty of being the ringleader behind a scheme that defrauded the federal government out of more than $700,000.  Five other people who participated in the scheme are already serving federal prison sentences.
