Mothers Say No to Nightclub

A former Montgomery nightclub, the Centennial Hill Bar and Grill was part of the discussion at Tuesday's Montgomery City Council meeting.  Three mothers of people who were shot at the nightclub pleaded with the City Council not to allow another nightclub at the building on Highland Avenue.  Shirley Scott, mother of the slain rapper, known as Doe B, made it clear that she will fight any efforts to reopen the club.

Budget Proposal

Discussions have begun over a proposed $228 million dollar budget as presented by Mayor Todd Strange.  At Tuesday's Montgomery City Council session, the spending plan contains a $5 increase in garbage fees which the mayor says is operating at a deficit.  The Reverend Murphy Green, pastor of Clay Street Baptist Church, is opposed to hiking trash fees.  He says some segments of Montgomery's population can't afford the increase.

Overnight Shooting

Montgomery Police are investigating a shooting overnight that sent an adult male to the hospital with a serious injury.  Few details are available, but Montgomery Police Sgt. Denis Barnes said the man was shot in the 100 block of West Delano Avenue.  Sgt. Barnes said no arrests were made.  In a separate homicide case, Montgomery County Sheriff's investigators have arrested two more suspects in connection with a weekend shooting in the Waugh Community.  Kyrice Mushat and Terry Jackson Jr. are each charged with capital murder for the Saturday night shooting death of 27-year-old Ballard Reynolds. A third male charged in the fatal shooting, 24-year-old Marcus Sanders, was taken into custody over the Labor Day weekend.
