Montgomery's Latest Homicide Victim Identified

Montgomery Police are investigating a homicide, the second murder to occur this week.  MPD said officers and Fire Medics were called to the 900 block of Mill Street early Thursday 12:30 where they found 26-year-old Keandrew Alexander dead from a gunshot wound.  Police said Alexander's body was found in front of the former Cleveland Court Apartment complex.  No arrests have been made, it was the city's third homicide this year.

Home Invasion

A home invasion at a residence in Hope Hull has landed three people in the Montgomery County jail.  Sheriff's officials say 21-year-old Brenden Harrelson, 18-year-old Amber Cannon, both of Montgomery and 20-year-old Justin Wells of Wetumpka are each charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree assault and first-degree burglary.  The Montgomery County Sheriff's Department said the home invasion occurred just after midnight at a residence on West Mclean Road.  The home owner was not seriously injured.

New Member

Alabama State University has a new member for its board of trustees.  He is Bessemer attorney Lonnie Washington.  He replaces Birmingham businessman Larry Thornton who resigned in November.  Washington was sworn in Thursday by Governor Bentley.  Washington is a 1988 graduate of Alabama State.

Candle Light Vigil

Family, friends and well-wishers gathered last night for a candle light vigil in front of a home on Alexander Street that was the scene of a tragic fire one week ago today.  Two children, ages 3 and one-month-old, died in the blaze.  A third child, a 2-year-old, is recovering from severe burns in a Birmingham hospital.  The owner of Angela's Kitchen on West Fairview held a fundraiser this week and raised hundreds of dollars to help the family pay for funeral expenses.
