Judge Sides With Death Row Inmates

A federal judge says the state of Alabama may not use a large dose of a sedatives to execute five death row inmates.  U.S. District Judge William Keith Watkins issues an order last week denying the state's request to dismiss lawsuits from the death row inmates who have challenged Alabama's three-drug lethal injection procedure.  Judge Watkins ordered the five inmates lawsuits to be combined.  A status conference for the combined case is scheduled for November 4th.  

Uber Opportunity

Mayor Todd Strange says he's exploring the ride-hailing company Uber to determine whether the mobile app-based company's service will work in Montgomery.  Uber began running in Mobile in June, Huntsville's mayor also plans to propose ordinances to allow Uber to launch operations.  Mayor Strange said he plans to meet with Uber representatives this month and next month.  

March Anniversary

Black men and women participating in the 20th anniversary of the Million Man March on the National Mall in Washington Saturday are calling for changes in policing and in black communities.  Also, Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan told the crowd that black men and women should forsake foul language and violence against each other.  

Harris Hearing

A Tuscaloosa man accused of killing his toddler son by leaving him in a vehicle on a hot day is set to appear in court for a hearing in Marietta, Georgia.  A Cobb County judge is set to hear arguments on pretrial motions Monday in the case of Justin Ross Harris.  In June of last year, police said Harris left his 22-month-old son in an SUV for about seven hours on a hot day in the Atlanta area.  Harris is a native of Tuscaloosa and moved to the Atlanta area in 2012 to work for Home Depot.
