Graduation Rate Rises in Alabama

The state's graduation rate has soared to 86 percent.  State Superintendent Dr. Tommy Bice released the new numbers Thursday, which represent a six percent increase over last year.  Bice says the state is ahead of schedule with the plan 2020 standards.  Bice says the record-breaking graduation rate is proof that teachers and students are working harder than ever.  

MPD Police Chief

Montgomery will have a new police chief by next week.  That is the latest from Mayor Todd Strange.  On Thursday's "Second Thursdays with Mayor Todd Strange" talk show, he confirmed that an individual has been chosen.  Strange says the 29-year law enforcement veterans is currently a deputy chief in a Southern metropolitan area.  The announcement is expected to be made at a press conference Wednesday.  

Project Delay

Alabama officials have agreed to delay a highway widening project through Eufaula's historic district to the Florida line through the end of the year while a federal judge considers a suit filed by city officials trying to stop the project.  The judge says he will rule on Eufaula's request for a temporary restraining order on Dec. 31st.
