Colley's Family Thanks Community for Support

The family of a fallen Montgomery Police officer say they've been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support.  Officer David Colley's relatives held a press conference Thursday to express their gratitude to the police department and area citizens for their words of comfort and prayers.  Officer Colley, who was 24, was killed in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Narrow Lane Road and East South Boulevard on the morning of April 4th.  

Tax Fraud

A former nightclub operator received a lengthy prison sentence this week.  Federal prosecutors say 38-year-old Tarrish Tellis will serve 18 years and seven months in federal prison for being the mastermind behind an identity theft, refund fraud scheme.  Tellis is the former owner of Club Iconz Bar and Grill.  He was convicted by a federal jury in January for using stolen names to steal over $700,000 in a tax refund scheme.  The U.S. Attorney's office said five others who participated in the scheme were sentenced last year.

Grand Jury Review

A Montgomery County grand jury will review the criminal case against Juan Daniels.  District Court Judge Jimmy Pool issued the ruling Thursday at a preliminary hearing.  The 28-year-old Daniels is accused of driving an SUV into an apartment building in February that claimed the life of 6-year-old Aiden Howard.  Daniels was charged with capital murder and his request for bond was denied.  

Mother, Son Sentenced

Federal prosecutors in Montgomery say a woman and her son have been sentenced to prison for their roles in a methamphetamine dealing operation.  The U.S. Attorney's office said yesterday that 50-year-old Modesto Barajas De Chavez of Deatsville was sentenced to 14 years in prison and 28-year-old John Candido Chavez will serve 15 years and eight months.  Prosecutors said the pair were arrested in May of last year at their residence in Deatsville.  

Restraining Order

A federal judge in Mobile has issued a temporary restraining order against a company accused of retaliating against workers at an automotive parts plant in Selma who are part of a whistleblower investigation.  The order filed by the U.S. Labor Department blocks the Lear Corporation and Renosol Seating from terminating, suspending, suing, threatening or retaliating against current or former employees.  

ASU Preview

Members of the Alabama State University Marching Hornets Band got a chance to preview "Bama State Style" on Thursday.  The reality show premieres Friday at 10 p.m. on the Lifetime TV network.  The television series chronicles the ASU Marching band's practices and performances during the fall of 2014.
