Bentley Meets With Black Legislators About Closings

The controversy over the closings of driver's license offices in rural counties appears to be growing.  Wednesday, Governor Bentley met with black legislators and Reverend Jesse Jackson.  Bentley said he will work with lawmakers to find solutions.  Reverend Jackson was critical of the governor for calling Alabama Congressman Terri Sewell "impulsive" after she called for a federal probe.  Lawmakers says 11 of the 31 satellite offices that were closed are located in Black Belt counties.  

Elderly Man Found

State Troopers say an elderly man who was reported missing by Selma Police this week was found safe and unharmed in Dickson, Tennessee, a suburb near Nashville.  79-year-old Jeanie Scott Jr. was believed to be driving to Chicago, his hometown.  The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency canceled the missing persons alert Wednesday night.  Selma Police Sgt. Evelyn Ghant said Mr. Scott will be reunited with relatives in Selma.  

Tobacco Quitline

The Alabama Department of Public Health is offering a plan to help smokers quit using tobacco.  Alabama Tobacco Quitline Manager, Jabari Sullien says with the recent cigarette tax increase, now is a perfect time to stop using tobacco.  The program offers a quit plan, coaching and nicotine patches, all at no cost.  The public is invited to use Quitline, all information and coaching sessions are confidential.
