Lawton, OK – (AP) - About 300 National Guard and Army Reserve
soldiers in aviation units are on their way to Afghanistan and
Iraq.
A farewell ceremony was held Tuesday at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, where the
soldiers have been training for several weeks.
The soldiers are from Alabama, Georgia, Connecticut and Florida.
Some of the soldiers will be flying noncombat evacuation
operations in Iraq and Kuwait with UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters.
Other soldiers are deploying to Afghanistan for air assault and
air movement operations using CH-47 Chinook helicopters.
The units flew more than 800 hours at Fort Sill and fired more
than 70,000 rounds of ammunition to qualify on aerial gunnery.
