AG Blamed in Hubbard's Indictment

House Speaker Mike Hubbards' attorney says the indictment of Hubbard is political and Attorney General Luther Strange is behind it.  Attorney Mark White made the comments at a news conference Tuesday in Auburn.  A Lee County grand jury recently indicted Hubbard on 23 felony ethics charges following a months long probe led by the attorney general's office.  The embattled house speaker believes he was targeted for political gain.  Attorney General Luther Strange issued a statement and said he recused himself from the investigation to remove any appearance of politics being involved in the matter.  

MATS Woes

Montgomery's transit bus system is losing money, so says Mayor Todd Strange.  He said the city will have to address the deficit and be it necessary for MATS to eliminate late night and early Saturday morning bus service.  But Rose McCall, an activist with the Montgomery Transportation Coalition, says  city leaders should look at improvements instead of cut backs.  Mayor Strange said a public hearing must be held before there any proposed changes to the city bus system.  

Road Improvements

There is good news for drivers who utilize the Perry Hill Road exit ramp onto Interstate 85.  The Alabama Department of Transportation says work has been completed on the new interchange loop ramp following months of construction.  The new interchange opened Tuesday night.  

Bicentennial Activities

The Alabama Bicentennial Commission says activities will be spread over two years.  The commission says programs will begin in 2017, which is the 200th anniversary of the creation of the Alabama Territory.  They will continue through December 14, 2019, which is the bicentennial of Alabama becoming a state.
