Hyundai Offers Assistance Program in the Face of Declining Sales

Montgomery, Alabama – Hyundai Motors Manufacturing is struggling with declining sales. The Montgomery plant reports December 2008 sales were down over 48 percent in comparison with December 2007 figures.

In an attempt to boost sales, Hyundai is out with a new program aimed at encouraging people to buy Hyundai vehicles. It's called the Hyundai Assurance Program, and it basically allows people who are leasing or buying a Hyundai financed vehicles to return them - if they fall on hard economic times.

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - Auburn has named Trooper Taylor assistant
head coach in charge of wide receivers. Taylor was Oklahoma State's
co-offensive coordinator and receivers coach last season. Auburn
coach Gene Chizik says Taylor is familiar with the Southeastern
Conference and is a tremendous recruiter.

Montgomery Sales Tax Collections Decline

January 5,2009 – The Montgomery City Council meets tonight, no doubt declining sales tax revenues will be on the minds of Council members.

Sales tax collections in the capital city for November 2008 were down 14 percent from November 2007 figures. The decline in sales tax revenue means the city will have less to spend on city government functions.

City Council President Charles Jinright has been sworn in as interim mayor. Jinright says that budget adjustments are likely.

Alabama Faces Possibility of Severe Weather

Montgomery, Alabama –
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - National Weather Service meteorologists
urge Alabamians to monitor weather conditions today.
A large storm system will move across the state in front of an
approaching cold front.
Meteorologists said the system has the potential to spawn severe
thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong gusty winds.
Isolated tornadoes are also possible.
Numerous flood watches and flood warnings have also been issued
for much of the state.

Bobby Bright resigns as Mayor of Montgomery as he prepares to be sworn in as Alabama's Second l District Congressman.

Sales tax collections are down in the Capital City. Figures show sales tax collections in Montgomery for November 2008 were down 14 percent from November 2007.

Severe weather is a concern around the state as unseasonably warm temperatures are recorded statewide.

Bright Resigns

Montgomery, Alabama – (Montgomery,AL) Montgomery Mayor Bobby Bright made it official; he handed in his resignation effective just before midnight on January 5th.

Bright is leaving the job that he has held for nine years to serve as Alabama's 2nd District Congressman in the United States House of Representatives.

Bright wrote in his letter of resignation,"When first becoming mayor of Montgomery, my gaol was to leave it in better shape than I found it. We have been successful with that endeavor".

Gun fire claims teen

Selma, AL – Selma police are investigating a weekend shooting that left a 16-year old boy dead. Authorities said Rahemeen Garner died Saturday from a gunshot wound to the chest. Police said Garner was shot by another teenager late Friday night. A 17-year old male was arrested and faces a murder charge. Officials declined to identify the suspected gunman because of his age. But Selma Police Chief William T. Riley said its likely the juvenile will be charged as an adult.
