Montgomery Public Schools Superintendent Accepts Job in Louisiana

Montgomery, Alabama – Montgomery County Board of Education Superintendent John Dilworth is leaving Montgomery after accepting a new job in Louisiana.
Beginning July 1st, Dilworth will serve as superintendent for the East Baton Rouge School Board.
Dilworth has spent 27 years in education, 17 of them in Caddo Parish schools in Shreveport. He has spent the past two years as the superintendent in Montgomery.
Dilworth says his wife's health concerns and family ties prompted his bid to return to Louisiana.

Brothers Charged in Opelika Murder

Montgomery,Alabama – An Opelika man joins his brother behind bars charged in Sunday's murder of a man at a local nightclub.
Opelika police say 24-year-old Cortney Lashavious Wright is charged in connection with the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Justin Lydell Bryant.
Authorities say the victim was slain outside the VFW Club.
Cortney Wright's brother, 22-year-old Renza Danielle Wright, was arrested March 15th shortly after the homicide.
The siblings were being held at the Lee County Detention Facility.

NCAA Tournament Briefs

New York –
DAYTON, Ohio (AP) - There are 16 more first-round games
scheduled for today's second day of the NCAA men's basketball
tournament. Louisville, the top seed overall, sees its first action
this evening when it plays Morehead State, the winner of the
play-in game Tuesday night.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - The biggest upset on opening day of the
tournament belonged to Western Kentucky. The 12th-seeded
Hilltoppers beat fifth-seed Illinois 76-72 in the South Regional
and will take on Gonzaga next.

5 Arrested in Montgomery Murder

Montgomery, Alabama – Montgomery Police say robbery appears to be the motive in the murder committed last week outside a downtown motel.

Charged with capital murder are 18 year old Jerome Adams, 21 year old Sebastian Fitzpatrick, and three 19 year olds, Jalisa Williams, Latahdrick Perkins, and Nayman Gilchrist.

They're accused of killing 39 year old Demetrius Miller during the commission of a robbery outside the Town plaza Motel on Madison Avenue early Tuesday morning.

One Man Arrested, Another Sought in Montgomery County Murders

Montgomery, Alabama – Montgomery County Sheriff's Deputies have one man in custody in the double murders in Ramer. 29 year old Courtney Nobles is behind bars charged with the murders of Mark Teague and Kenneth Ray Johnson. Deputies are still looking for 28 year old Derrick Jones who also faces murder charges.

Sheriff's officials say Teague and Johnson were shot to death outside a home on Sugar Cane Road in Ramer around 8:15 Wednesday night following an argument.

Man Killed at Downtown Hotel

Montgomery, Alabama – Few details are available in the murder investigation underway in the capital City.

Montgomery Police Major Huey Thornton says they are not releasing the name of the victim, but the 34 year old man was shot several times and apparently fell over a second story guard rail at Town Plaza Motel early Tuesday.

Police are not releasing a motive in the city's 8th homicide so far this year.

SWAC Champions Fall Short in NCAA Tournament Play

Montgomery,Alabama – The ASU Hornets are heading home after falling short in the match up with Morehead State Tuesday night.

The Hornets fell 58-43 to Morehead State in the opening
game of the NCAA tournament.

Alabama State finishes the season at 22-10.
