National Bookstore Chain Closes Store in Montgomery

Montgomery, Alabama – A national book store chain is closing the doors of one of its stores in Montgomery. Barnes and Noble is closing its location at the corner of the Eastern Boulevard and the Troy Highway.

Barnes and Nobles cites the declining number of retail stores in the area as part of its decision to close.

Barnes & Noble says it will close the Montgomery store at the end of June.

South Alabama Shooter Penned Letter Detailing His Crime

Dothan, Alabama – (AP) - A letter released by investigators shows the
man blamed for last month's killing spree in south Alabama wanted
people to pay for making him and his mother suffer.
In the letter obtained by the Dothan Eagle, 28-year-old Michael
McLendon wrote that he fatally shot his mother while she slept
because she was sick, perhaps with lung cancer. He wrote that he
killed her dogs, too, because she wanted to die with the animals.
Authorities say McLendon fatally shot 10 people before killing

Area Teachers Among Finalists

Montgomery, Alabama – Two area teachers are among four finalist being recognized for their hard work education area children.

Wetumpka High School's Virginia Vilardi and Yung Thi Bui-Kinser of Booker T. Washington magnet High School are being considered for the title of Alabama Teacher of the Year.

Kinser and Vilardi join representatives from the Hoover City and Calhoun County school systems in the bid for the title. The Alabama Teacher of the Year will be announced at an awards ceremony on may 13,2009.
