December 8,2008 – Alabama's Senators are speaking out against the proposed government bailout of the "Big Three" U.S. automakers. Senator Richard Shelby of Tuscaloosa says even though the bailout was trimmed down from 34 billion dollars to 15 billion dollars, it's not a good plan. Shelby calls it the "bridge loan to nowhere". Senator Jeff Sessions of Mobile says it might be better for automakers to pursue Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Motorists are paying less at the gas pumps in Alabama. AAA Alabama's daily fuel gauge report shows gas prices at $1.64 per gallon compared to $1.71 per gallon nationally. Gas prices have fallen 95 cents over the past month.

Alabama State University Head Football Coach Reggie Barlow fired two of his staff Sunday. Defensive Coordinator Tony Pierce and Linbacker's Coach and Assistant Head Coach Brian Williams have been let go. both Pierce and Williams were hired by former head Coach Charlie Coe back in 2003.

Motorists traveling on Interstate 85 North between Montgomery and Tuskegee will experience delays over the next few days. Department of Transportation crews will close the left lane of I-85 North near the Montgomery and Macon County line between 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
