December 1,2008 – Calls by WVAS News to the Birmingham attorney representing Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford are being met with no comment. Attorney Thomas Baddley is expected to release a written statement later today concerning Mayor Langford's indictment. Langford is charged with bribery, fraud, and other federal charges in connection with multi-million dollar sewer bond deals made while Langford was president of the Jefferson County Commission.
Public Service Commission President Lucy Baxley is in a Montgomery Hospital recovering from a hair line fracture to her pelvis. Baxley fell while visiting with relatives over the Thanksgiving Holiday.
It was on this date in 1955 that a Black Montgomery seamstress, Mrs. Rosa Parks, refused to give up her seat to a White man on a Montgomery bus. Four days later, the Montgomery Improvement Association as formed and a bus boycott that lasted 381 days and effectively ended segregated seating on buses in Montgomery.
