March is Women's History Month!

Free tuberculosis testing will be provided today at Alabama State University's Dunn-Oliver Acadome.  The Alabama Department of Public Health and the ASU Health Center recently identified an ASU student with an active case of tuberculosis.  Public Health officials said around 600 students and faculty could have come in close contact with the infected student.  The tuberculosis screenings will be provided free of charge until 2 p.m. 

Protecting Students' Privacy

The Alabama Board of Education has adopted a policy that board members say is intended to assure parent and others that protecting students' privacy is a top priority.  The 6-2 vote Thursday came after stat officials received criticism that new common core standards could make student records available to the public. 

Roby Survey

If you have an opinion about the partial government shutdown, now in its 1oth day.  Montgomery Republican Congresswoman Martha Roby is asking constituents in the 2nd District to take an online survey.  It contains three questions and includes a space for comments.  Representative Roby said she want feedback on how you think Congress should proceed. 

Caspari Pleads Guilty

A Tallassee man accused of stalking and killing a 20-year-old Elmore County woman pleaded guilty to capital murder charges.  23-year-old Josh Caspari told Elmore County Circuit Judge Ben Fuller that he murdered Anna Cardwell in February 2012.  Prosecutors said the victim was targeted by Caspari because she had told another woman to end her relationship with him.  Anna Cardwell was shot to death at a residence in the Flatwood Community.  As part of a plea agreement, Caspari was sentenced to life in prison without parole. 

Teen Indictment

An Alabama teenager has been indicted in the hanging death of his 9-year-old half-sister.  St. Clair County District Attorney Richard Minor says 15-year-old John Dillon Salers is charged with capital murder in the May 2012 death of Katelyn Arnold of Ragland.  Minor says Salers cannot get the death penalty because he was only 14 at the time of the girl's death.
