Montgomery interim School Superintendent Margaret Allen and State Superintendent Dr. Tommy Bice are meeting today to begin work on implementing new policies and procedures for MPS school.  Representatives from the State Education Department will lay out a general action plan that calls for creating a new mind-set for Montgomery Public Schools. 

Lane Closures

Drivers traveling Interstate 85 near Montgomery may experience land closures today through Thursday nights.  The Alabama Department of Transportation says that if the weather permits, there will be single lane closures of I-85 North and Souther at mile marker 14.5 between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.  through Thursday.  The closures are to set steel bridge girders over I-85 for the new Montgomery Outer Loop.  The department says more lane closures are expected October 20th thru the 24th. 

Montgomery Arrest

The Montgomery Police Department has arrested a 23-year Nicktavius Pringle of Montgomery in connection with the shooting death of 25-year-old Demarcus Pringle.  MPD Detectives charged Nicktavius Pringle with one count of murder.  Pringle turned himself in Friday afternoon.  He is now being held in the Montgomery County Detention Facility on a $75,000 bond.   

Back to Work

Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel has ended at least some of the debate over which furloughed federal workers should be back on the job.  Pentagon civilian employees will become part of the working group today after Hagel ordered nearly all 350,000, including furloughed civilian employees at Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base, back to their posts, based on a bill signed by the president just before the shutdown.
