The Montgomery County School Board has turned to the state for assistance in resolving issues linked to a probe into improper grade changes.  At Tuesday's meeting, the MPS Board voted unanimously to ask the State Department of Education to provide an education monitor to help correct several problems in the school system. 

New School

Pike Road Mayor Gordon Stone unveiled an artist sketch for the new K-8 school to be built in the town.  At a news conference Tuesday, Stone said a ground breaking ceremony for the $16 million dollar school will be held in January.  The school will open in the fall of 2015. 

Fatal Traffic Accident

Alabama State Troopers have released information regarding a traffic fatality on U.S. Highway 231 South.  Trooper spokesman, Sgt. Steven Jarrett said in a statement that 23-year-old Caitlyn Wiggins of Montgomery was killed when the sport utility vehicle she was driving  left a wet road and struck a tree.  The crash occurred just before 8 p.m. on U.S. 231 southbound at the 99 mile marker.  The accident is under investigation.
