A 22-year-old Enterprise man was struck and killed by a train Sunday afternoon in downtown Montgomery.  According to Montgomery Police, Finnian McCarty was struck by a CSX Train on Moulton Street just before 4 p.m.  Police said in a statement that the train engineer told investigators that McCarty stood on the railroad tracks and made no effort to move.  The train operators were not able to stop before striking McCarty.   Authorities determined the incident to be alcohol-related. 

Working Retirees

State retirement officials say they're trying to crack down on former  public employees retiring, collecting pensions and working as contractors for public agencies.  Alabama law says a retiree can't draw a pension and continue earning more than $23,000 annually from a Retirement System of Alabama member agency. 

Nightclub Murder

Selma Police Detectives are investigating a homicide that occurred early Sunday morning at a nightclub.  Selma Authorities said a 22-year-old man, also from Selma, was shot to death on Ivanhoe Street.  The victim's name was withheld.  Police charged Oscar Blevins with murder.  He was taken to the Dallas County jail with bond set at $150,000. 

Lowery's Wife Hospitalized

The wife of Southern Christian Leadership Conference president Joseph Lowery remains hospitalized in critical condition after a stroke.  An Atlanta TV station quoted a family statement issued Saturday as saying Evelyn Lowery has irreversible damage.  She was stricken last Wednesday.  The Rev. Joseph Lowery and his wife were in Birmingham earlier this month for the 50th anniversary of a church bombing.
