Its called Operation Good Shepherd, the initiative announced in June allows local ministers to assist Montgomery Police at crime scenes. The ministers will provide comfort to crime victims and help officers to defuse volatile situations. 34 ministers participated in a series of training classes. A graduation ceremony was held Thursday evening for the first class of clergy members who will participate in Operation Good Shepherd.
Liquor Stores
Alabama's state-run liquor stores soon will under an extensive make-over. Al.com reports the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board plans to modernize stores that will include a new logo. ABC Administrator Mac Gibson said a Birmingham company has been hired to design the new logo and make charges in store fixtures, signs and appearance.
Handgun Law Legislation
Montgomery State Representative Alvin Holmes is following through on his promise to fight a new gun law that allows Alabamians to openly carry handguns. The Democrat has prefiled legislation to repeal the law which he contends is bad public policy.
Labor Day
Drivers will see more state troopers on the roads during the Labor Day holiday weekend. It's part of the national Driver Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign. Extra officers will be working from the beginning of the holiday travel period at 6 p.m. Friday through midnight Tuesday.
