Alabama state troopers say two Montgomery men were killed and one person was injured in a two-vehicle crash
Tuesday afternoon east of the Montgomery city limits.
Troopers said the driver, 45-year old Kevin Lamont Whitfield, and his passenger, 40-year old John Edward
Miller, died when the car they were riding in collided with a tractor-trailer rig on Alabama 110 near the
intersection of Barganier Road, about seven miles east of Montgomery.
The crash happened about 2 p.m.
Two other male passengers in Whitfield's vehicle were injured.
Troopers said the driver of the 18-wheeler was not hurt.
An apparent murder in Lowndes County is under investigation.
The Alabama Bureau of Investigation is assisting the Lowndes County Sheriff's office.
Investigators have not released any information regarding the homicide.
Authorities also would not reveal the area where the investigation is being conducted.
A team of Montgomery firefighters captured first place honors in the Regional Firefighters Combat Challenge
Competition in Jackson, Mississippi.
The nine-member squad captured top honors in the Individual, Team, Relay and Tandem events last weekend.
Montgomery firefighters won a similar competition in Albertville last month.
A police shooting that resulted in the death of Bernard Whitehurst in the mid 1970's made headlines and its
back in the news this week.
The Whitehurst Family said their loved one was mistaken for a robbery suspect and was shot and killed by a
police officer in December 1975.
Stacey Whitehurst said his family deserves a response from the city.
The Montgomery City Council did not issue an apology.
However, city councilman C.C. Calhoun said the matter will be discussed at a later date.
