The state Department of Education has released its findings into allegations of improper grade changing at Montgomery Public Schools.  State Superintendent of Education Tommy Bice outlined six areas of concern in a letter sent to MPS Superintendent Barbara Thompson.  They include failure to enforce state and local policies, failure to properly train school employees, and an environment that discourages reporting and correcting violations. 

Murder-Suicide

Police in Prattville say two teenagers found dead in a home on Sycamore Drive were stabbed to death in an apparent murder-suicide.  Police identified the victims as 19-year-olds Wellesley Owen and Mitchell Warren.  Investigators believe Warren killed Owen before taking his own life Tuesday night.  Authorities have not released a possible motive.  At a news conference Wednesday, Prattville Police Chief Mark Thompson said the mother of one of the young men came home to find the body of her son and that of the other young man. 

Felony Charges

A former Alabama education official and her husband are facing felony ethics charges.  Attorney General Luther Strange said a Montgomery County grand jury indicted Deann and Dave Stone of Wetumpka.  The coupled surrendered Wednesday.  Deann Stone is accused of using her official position at the state Department of Education to obtain personal gain for the couple and for her husband's company through the allocation of more than $24 million dollars in federal stimulus money to three county school systems that were using Dave Stone's company. 

Walker in Alabama

Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker is making a trip down south to give a speech in Alabama.  Walker has been mentioned as a possible 2016 Republican presidential candidate.  Friday night, Walker is scheduled to deliver the keynote address at the Alabama Republican Party's summer dinner in Montgomery.
