March is Women's History Month!

Alabama State University is inviting fans, alumni and other supporters to attend the final Coaches Caravan event at the new ASU Football Stadium.  ASU Sports Information Director Duane Lewis said all athletic coaches will be in attendance to greet the fans.  ASU officials said tonight's event will be an interactive event as fans may tweet or email their questions.  It starts at 6 p.m. in the stadium club lounge. 

Black Belt Heritage

The cultural and historical significance of Alabama's Black Belt to the country could become officially recognized if it is designated as a National Heritage Area.  A U.S. Senate subcommittee is set to consider legislation to that effect this week.  The Black Belt, made up of 19 Alabama counties, is know for its dark, rich soil, its cultural background and its civil rights history.  The legislation is sponsored by Senator Richard Shelby and Representative Terri Sewell. 

Bennett Takes Office

Former Alabama Secretary of State Jim Bennett will take the oath of office, replacing Beth Chapman whose resignation takes effect today.  Governor Robert Bentley will administer the oath of office to Bennett this afternoon at 5 p.m. in the Old House Chamber at the Alabama State Capitol.  Chapman is leaving her position to take a job with the Alabama Farmers Federation.
