WVAS Local News

Montgomery Police have released more information regarding a fatal shooting on Sunday in the 5700 block of Bell Road.  An MPD release states that 33-year-old Ubaldo Estrada of Montgomery was found at the scene with a gunshot wound.  He was taken to Baptist Medical Center South where he was later pronounced dead.  The initial investigation indicates that Estrada made forced entry into the residence.  Because his death was caused by another individual, the incident will be recorded as the city's 28th homicide of 2013.  Police are asking that anyone with information about the homicide call 625-2831 or the Secret Witness line at 262-4000.

Murder Arrest

Police in Montgomery have made an arrest in connection with the city's 29th homicide of the year.  23-year-old Dontavious Jones has been charged with capital murder in the death of 25-year-old Lelve Watkins of Montgomery.  Investigators say a drug transaction in the 4700 block of Narrow Lane Road turned violent with several shots being fired.  Four people were wounded.  Watkins died from his injuries.  Jones was arrested following his release from the hospital.  A fourth subject, 20-year-old Shon Wright Jr. was charged with conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance after he was released from the hospital.  Both Jones and Wright have been placed in the Montgomery County Detention Facility.

Overlook Park

Montgomery's Overlook Park now has a new look.  A replica of the Wright Brothers flyer was recently placed at the park, located on Maxwell Boulevard.  Mayor Todd Strange said the Wright brother's plane is rooted in Montgomery's connection to aviation history.  A relative of the famous brothers was on hand at Tuesday's dedication ceremony.
