Montgomery Arrests

Montgomery Police say two males, ages 23 and 19 are behind bars today facing a murder charge.  Latterious Davis and Lesherman Ringstaff are accused in connection with Saturday's shooting death of 38-year-old Alvin Harris.  Around 12:30 Saturday morning, officers found the victim's body in the 500 block of West Fairview Avenue.  Police Lt. Regina Duckett said Davis and Ringstaff surrendered to police Sunday.  Bond was set at $75,000 dollars each.  Montgomery has recorded 27 homicides in 2013.

Deadly Crash

State Troopers have identified two Lee County Men who were killed in a single vehicle crash in Elmore County Sunday morning.  Troopers said 19-year-old Jesus Ugalbe of Opelika and 24-year-old Gerardo Costillo of Auburn died when the vehicle ran off Elmore County 429 and overturned just before 8 a.m. Sunday.  Costillo and Ugalbe were both ejected and died at the scene.  Troopers said neither man was wearing a seat belt.  Investigators said speeding was factor in the crash.

New Laws

Several new state laws go into effect today, including one allowing the state parole board to issue posthumous pardons for the Scottsboro Boys.  The founder of the Scottsboro Boys Museum, Sheila Washington, says paperwork will be filed soon asking the board to issue pardons removing rape convictions that occurred more than 80 years ago.  Other new laws are mean to cut red tape for businesses, give new protections to utility workers, and make Alabama more attractive to the military during the next round of base realignments.  A new law regulating abortion clinic doctors was supposed to take effect today, but a federal judge put it on hold.
