April is Autism Awareness Month

A list of prominent figures from various civil rights, political and community organizations are banding together to encourage the U.S. Supreme Court to keep the 1965 Voting Rights Act intact.  The Coalition of Leaders will participate in a caravan across Alabama starting June 14th.  The high court is expected to rule on the legality of Section 5 of the law.  The provision is being challenged by the Shelby County, Alabama, Commission. 

New Barber Law

A new law in Alabama will require barbers to be licensed and inspected for sanitation.  The law goes into effect later this summer.  The bill's sponsor Representative Kurt Wallace of Maplesville says every state except Alabama regulates barbers.  The new law will require barber to pay a $15 dollar licensing fee and a renewal license fee of $80 dollars every other year. 

Murder Suspect Arrested

Authorities is Selma say a man out on a $100,000 dollar bond for a 2011 murder at a nightclub is back in jail charged in connection with another fatal shooting.  Selma Police Chief William Riley said Deandre Keon Fuller was arrested Tuesday evening.  Fuller was charged in connection with last Saturday's fatal shooting of Antonio Boykin.  The victim was murdered at his residence on King Street.  Selma Police said Fuller also was charge with beating an individual Thursday afternoon.  Fuller is charged with capital murder and assault.  He was being held without bond. 

MPS Registration Schedule

Montgomery Public School officials have released the registration schedule for the upcoming school year.  MPS said registration for non-magnet elementary schools is July 8th through the 11th from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for all non-magnet middle and high schools, the registration date is July 22nd.  Registration for the new Park Crossing High School in east Montgomery will be June 17th through the 29th at Wilson Elementary School.
