Governor Bentley has heaped praise on state lawmakers for their work in the 2013 regular session.  The governor was in Gulf Shores Tuesday to sign a bill that would restore the Gulf State Park with a new hotel and conference center.  Bentley said legislators deserve credit for revamping the Medicaid system, state gun laws, school safety and approving the Accountability Act.  The governor said the current legislative session, which ends May 20th, is the best session the state has ever had. 

MPS Changes

The Montgomery County School Board is looking at making changes to the system's alternative schools.  At its Tuesday meeting, school officials discussed a new program, called Second Chance.  The program would put more emphasis on student behavior and would require parents to be involved.  On another matter, the final plans for the possible consolidation of Lanier and Carver High Schools remain undecided. 

Rapist Guilty Plea

A Montgomery man has pleaded guilty to luring five women to vacant apartments and raping them between February and April of last year.  Prosecutors said Roderikus Alloway pleaded guilty to five counts of rape and burglary, six counts of sodomy and a count of sexual abuse.  Investigators say the man would contact women through Facebook or on other forms of social media, get their number and start texting them.  Authorities say DNA evidence linked Alloway to the attacks and he is scheduled to be June 13th. 

Body Found

The body of a NASCAR fan who was reported missing after a race has been found in a creek near the Talladega Superspeedway.  A deputy coroner in Talladega County said of 28-year-old Nick Bower, of Villa Rica, Georgia, was found by an Etowah County Sheriff's Office helicopter.  Bower came the NASCAR race and was reported missing May 4th.
