Friday, Eastdale Mall officials implemented the new Parental Escort Policy. The program requires those under the age of 17 to be accompanied by a responsible adult age 21 and over on Fridays and Saturdays. Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange said abiding by the policy rests on the adults as well as the teens. The Parental Escort Policy will be enforced by a mall security company.
New Equipment
The Weights and Measures division of the state Department of Agriculture and Industries unveiled new equipment Friday. The six fuel analyzers and five provers will greatly increase the rate of fuel pump inspections in the state.
Bishop's Convictions Upheld
An Alabama appeals court is refusing to overturn the conviction of a former university professor who pleaded guilty to murdering three colleagues during a faculty meeting. The Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals upheld Amy Bishop's convictions. The Harvard-educated Bishop challenged her conviction even though she pleaded guilty last year and waived her right to appeal. Bishop is serving a sentence of life without parole.
