Strong storms and possible tornadoes are expected to strike Alabama as a cold front begins to sweep across the state.  The National Weather Service said scattered thunderstorms are expected to move into northwest Alabama late tonight.  Forecasters say a few of the storms could be severe.  By late Thursday morning, storms are expected to become more widespread.  Forecasters say locations west of Interstate 65 will be most affected from daybreak through mid-morning Thursday.  The storms are expected to move east of I-65 Thursday afternoon. 

Bentley Re-election

Governor Robert Bentley has announced he will seek a second term.  The 70-year-old Republican governor put to rest Tuesday any speculation about his future plans.  Bradley Byrne, who finished second to Bentley in the GOP race in 2010, say he hasn't decided what he will do in 2014. 

Education Budget

The Alabama How Ways and Means Education Committee approved a $5.7 billion dollar education budget that includes a 2 percent pay raise for teachers and other education employees.  Governor Bentley said he would prefer a slightly higher pay hike.  Republican Rep. Jay Love of Montgomery said the full House would take up the education budget today. 

Teacher of the Year

A Montgomery school teacher is among 16 finalists for Alabama Teacher of the Year.  Lauren Breeding is a special education teacher at Wilson Elementary School.  Last week Breeding helped unveil a new sensory room to help children with autism.  The  Alabama Department of Education said the 16 finalists will be narrowed down to a final four.  The Teacher of the Year will be announced at a ceremony May 8th at the RSA Plaza in downtown Montgomery. 

Supporting Immigration Reform

Alabama residents supporting immigration reform are among those gathering in the nation's capital for a demonstration backing changes in the nation's immigration laws.  Organizers say more than 220 immigrants and supporters will be in Washington for a march and lobbying efforts beginning today.  Members of the Alabama Coalition for Immigrant Justice will hold a vigil today at the office of Republican Senator Jeff Sessions.  They plan to deliver mini footballs to Sessions inscribed with the message "Don't Drop the Ball" pass immigration reform now.
