An active duty Marine charged with capital murder in connection with the April 1st slaying of his wife has agreed to be returned to Alabama to face the charge.  Al.com reports that Marine Lance Corporal Marquis Cheatham waived extradition Monday at a court hearing in Jacksonville, North Carolina.  Cheatham is accused of killing Ashley Cheatham while he was on a three-day leave from Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.  Court records showed the couple had been married since December 2011.  A second suspect, 21-year-old Dominique Atkinson, is also charged with murder.  She refused to waive extradition. 

Discrimination Suit Settled

The U.S. Justice Department and the city of Millbrook have agreed to settle a sex discrimination and retaliation lawsuit.  The suit was filed by Millbrook Police officer Kristen Spraggins who claimed she was harassed and faced discrimination based on her sex.  The out of court settlement required the city of Millbrook to pay Spraggins compensatory damages, the exact amount was not disclosed.  Millbrook officials also must revise and enforce policies that prohibit sex discrimination and retaliation. 

Entertainment Zones

Legislation to allow certain cities to designate more entertainment districts made it through the Alabama House last week.  The initial bill was intended for Huntsville and Montgomery, but amendments were added that included several other cities.  Entertainment districts are zones in a city where people can walk from one location to another with open containers of alcohol, like the Alley in downtown Montgomery. 

JetBlue Airways

JetBlue Airways will be the first Airbus customer to accept a jetliner manufactured at the Airbus plant in Mobile.  Governor Robert Bentley joined Mobile Mayor Sam Jones and other elected officials for a ground breaking ceremony Monday.  Governor Bentley used the occasion to ask JetBlue CEO Dave Barger to add an Alabama airport to its schedule.  The Airbus factory will begin production around 2015.
