The Alabama Legislature returns from its spring break today to begin the second half of its 2013 session.  Legislators in the House are expected to debate on the Education budget and a bill to legalize home brewing of wind and beer.  Another bill pending in the state Senate would rewrite state gun laws and allow people to carry pistols in their vehicles without a concealed permit.  Bobby Timmons, Executive Director of the Alabama Sheriff's Association, is strongly opposed to the bill.  The Business Council of Alabama has also criticized the bill. 

Double Shooting

Montgomery Police have not released the name of a murder victim.  The female was found shot to death Monday morning in the front yard of a house at the corners of Lower Wetumpka Road and Cook Avenue.  It was the city's 18th homicide of 2013. 

A separate shooting put a man in the hospital with life threatening injuries.  Montgomery Police said a suspect was arrested after a man was shot near a Family Dollar store on East South Boulevard and Narrow Lane Road.  The unidentified victim was upgraded from critical to stable condition Monday evening. 

Public Safety Annex

The city of Prattville has entered into an agreement with Target to place a public safety annex office at the retailer's store in the Prattville Town Center.  The announcement was made Monday.  The annex will house police and fire department personnel.  The annex is scheduled to open this week.  Prattville City officials said the annex should improve police response time to calls on the city's east side. 

Deadly Stabbing

Authorities in Opelika say twin brothers are behind bars today each are charged in connection with a double stabbing that left one man dead and the victim's brother critically injured.  Opelika Police said Kentarious Beasley and Kadarrious Beasley, both 24 are accused in Sunday's fatal stabbing of 35-year-old Gregory Moody, the other stabbing victim, 28-year-old William Moody, was listed in critical condition.  The Beasley twins are both charged with murder and attempted murder.
