The Federal Aviation Administration says air traffic control towers at the Dothan Regional Airport and the Tuscaloosa Regional Airport are slated to close because of automatic spending cuts.  Federal officials released a list of 149 contract towers that will be impacted by the spending cuts. 

Louis Farrakhan

Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan says the Montgomery-based Southern Poverty Law Center is wrong to say he leads a hate organization.  Farrakhan told high school and college students Friday at Tuskegee University that his organization shouldn't be lumped together with groups like the Ku Klux Klan. 

New Plant in Vance

Mercedes-Benz says it expects to employ about 500 people at an automotive parts staging facility in Vance.  The Tuscaloosa News reports that site preparation for the 900,000-square-foot facility has begun.  Mercedes officials said that they expect to have the $70-million facility in operation by February 2014.
