The average price of gasoline is taking a bite out of our pockets.  Gas prices have increased every day for more than a month and analysts say pump prices could climb higher.  According to AAA Alabama's Daily Fuel Gauge report, the statewide average price for regular is $3.61 today, that's four cents higher than Monday's price.  The national average price for regular is $3.74 a gallon, a one-cent hike from Monday's price. 

ASU Lecture Series

A nationally known sociologist and scholar says health related issues are in our national interest to address.  Harvard University Professor, Dr. David Williams was on the campus of Alabama State University Monday for the inaugural Distinguished Lecture Series.  Williams believes states like Alabama are cheating their citizens by not participating in the new health care law.  Dr. Williams is on the faculty in the school of Public Health at Harvard. 

Alabama's Small Business

Small business has a significant impact on Alabama's economy.  According to an annual report issued by the U.S. Small Business Administration, Alabama's small business employed more than 768,000 employees in 2010.  The majority held jobs in companies with anywhere from 20 to 499 workers.  The SBA's Office of Advocacy also found that minority self-employment saw the largest growth in the state over the last decade.  More information can be found at www.sba.gov. 

Roby Military Cuts

U.S. Representative Martha Roby is scheduled to speak to the Dothan Rotary Club today about current Congressional issues including automatic federal spending cuts set to take effect March 1st.  Roby has criticized the potential impact of the automatic cuts, also known as the sequester, on the military and has called for replacing them with cuts based on budget priorities.  The sequester will take effect unless Congress agrees on an alternative.
