Forecasters say cold air and warm air from the Gulf of Mexico will clash and create a chance for severe weather in Alabama. The National Weather Service says severe storms with damaging winds, heavy rains and isolated tornadoes are possible beginning tonight in west Alabama and moved into central and east Alabama counties Wednesday morning and afternoon.
School Break-ins
Montgomery police believe they have solved a rash of break-ins at local public schools with the arrest of a 29-year-old man. Police have charged Tarus Giles of Montgomery with ten counts of first-degree burglary. Authorities said Giles is accused of burglaries at Carver Elementary; Pace Alternative School; Jeff Davis High School; Southlawn School; Peter Crump School; Lanier High; Forest Avenue School; Capitol Heights Junior High; Robert E. Lee High and Floyd Elementary Schools. Tarus Giles is being held in the Montgomery County Detention Facility under bonds totaling more than $142,000 dollars.
Identity Theft
Authorities say a federal grand jury in Montgomery has returned an indictment charging a woman with aggravated identity theft and theft of government money. Authorities say LaQuanta Clayton used stolen identity information to open bank accounts at the bank where she worked and then stole federal tax refunds that were deposited into the bank accounts.
U.S. Attorney George Beck also announced Tuesday that separate indictments were returned against Scottie Alice Johnson of Montgomery and Lea'Tice Phillips, also of Montgomery, for engaging in criminal conspiracies to defraud the Internal Revenue Service.
Presidential Meeting
An Alabama sheriff was among the law enforcement officials who were at the White House Monday to discuss gun violence with President Barack Obama. Al.com reports Calhoun County Sheriff Larry Amerson told President Obama more needs to be done to address gaps in mental health needs that would include reporting mental health information to police agencies for gun background checks. Amerson, who is president of the National Sheriff's Association, also told Mr. Obama that average citizens believe he wants to take away the right to own a gun.
