North, central and west Alabama are trying to get back to normal after a winter storm dumped as much as four inches of snow on the area.  Dozens of school systems, businesses and government offices plan to open late today to let roads thaw out after an overnight freeze.  The delays extended from the Tennessee line as far south as metro Birmingham.  The Alabama Department of Transportation reports some icy patches, especially on bridges and overpasses on roads in north-central and north Alabama.  Some roads are also harzardous in parts of west Alabama. 

MLK Parade

State Representative Alvin Holmes is passionate about Monday's holiday for civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr.  The Montgomery Democrat said Dr. King will be remembered with several events in downtown Montgomery.  Representative Holmes said there will be a march from the downtown Montgomery Post Office to the State Capitol starting at 1 p.m. Monday.  Dr. King helped lead the Montgomery Bus Boycott in the 1950s. 

Welcome Home

A Welcome Home ceremony will be held today in Fort Deposit for 120 soldiers assigned to the 781st Transportation Company.  The Alabama Army National Guard outfit is returning from a year-long tour of duty in Afghanistan.  The ceremony will be held at the Fort Deposit  Municipal Auditorium. 

Soldier Identified

The Army has confirmed the identity of a soldier from Alabama who was shot and killed by police in Hawaii earlier this week.  The Army's 25th Infrantry Division says the soldier was 22-year-old Private First Class Gregory Gordon from Ashford.  Police say Gordon was shot early Tuesday in Waikiki after repeatedly ramming multiple police cars with his truck.  Several police officers were injured in the incident.
