The Montgomery City Auditorium served at the back drop to local law enforcement officials announcing a new Illegal Gun Initiative.  Since the New Year, five homicides involving guns have been reported.  Montgomery Police Chief Kevin Murphy said the new program will target illegal guns used in crimes and not lawful owners.  MPD Police Chief Murphy said in the days since the shootings 38 illegal weapons have been recovered. 


Development Preview


City planners hosted a Development Preview this morning in downtown Montgomery.  Director of Development Chad Emerson says the event was a chance for potential developers and interested citizens to see what projects are in the works for 2013 and beyond.  All the information that was presented at the preview can be found at www.developmontgomery.com


Republican National Committee


The nation's highest court has turned down an effort by the Republican National Committee to end a 30-year-old court order aimed at preventing intimidation of minority voters.  Supreme Court justices did not comment Monday in rejecting an appeal of lower court decisions that left the order in place at least until 2017.
