March is Women's History Month!

Alabama is participating with other states in the Wreaths Across America program to honor veterans and their families.  Governor Robert Bentley joined other state officials along with veterans and their families for a wreath-laying ceremony today at the state Capitol auditorium.  Officials in other states and in Washington will also hold ceremonies today.  Then on Dec. 15, 2012 groups will place wreaths on more than 1,700 graves at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo. 

State Representatives Dies

State Representative Yvonne Kennedy of Mobile has died at the age of 67.  House of Representatives spokesman Clay Redden said Kennedy died Saturday at UAB Hospital in Birmingham.  The cause of death is not immediately known.  She was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1979 and was among its longer-serving members.  Kennedy was a former chair of the Legislative Black Caucus. 

Montgomery's 31st Homicide

Montgomery police are investigating the city's 31st homicide of the year.  Officers say a Montgomery County man was slain Saturday night.  The fatal shooting occurred in the 3500 block of Clearview Street.  The victim was identified as 25-year-old Andre Jones of Lapine.  Police said officers found Jones suffering from gunshot wounds.  He later died at Jackson Hospital.  Montgomery police said no arrests were made.
