Budget Recommendation

A budget recommendation of 4.1 billion dollars for K-12 schools was approved Thursday by the Alabama Board of Education.  In presenting the budget recommendation to the board, Deputy Schools Superintendent Craig Pouncey says some pre-recession cuts can be restored.  Nearly 1,400 teaching positions were eliminated during the recession.  Next year's overall state education budget is expected to increase by almost $408 million dollars to 5 .9 billion dollars.  The board is not recommending a specific cost-of-living increase.  The board is leaving that decision to the governor andlegislature.
