A new presidential survey compiled by a think tank at Alabama State University shows a majority of respondents favor Republican Mitt Romney over Democrat Barack Obama in the race for the White House.  The survey released today by the ASU Center for Leadership and Public Policy surveyed 429 would-be voters between September 24th and October 31st.  The poll showed 55 percent support Romney and 36 percent backed President Obama.  34 percent of those surveyed supported Republican Roy Moore and 19 percent backed Democrat Robert Vance.  In the race for President of the Alabama Public Service Commisssion.  Twinkle Andress Cavanaugh outpolled incumbent Democrat Lucy Baxley 27 percent to 20 percent, respectively.  But a whopping 45 percent remain undecided. 

Hurricane Sandy

Electric Utility companies in Alabama are doing their part to help cities and communities on the eastern seaboard in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.  A television station in Huntsville reports that crews from a north Alabama utility were told Thursday that they cannot work in New Jersey because they are not Union employees.  WAFF TV said it happened in Seaside Heights, New Jersey.  The station reports the crew from Decatur Utilities decided to return to Alabama.  Despite the incident, hundreds of crews from Alabama are assisting with restoring electricity.

Deadline Extended

Alabama's top election official has extended the deadline for applying for an absentee ballot for military and National Guard personnel deployed to help victims of Superstorm Sandy.  The deadline for applying for an absentee ballot was Thursday, but Secretary of State Beth Chapman said the law gives her the ability to provide extra time for military voters.  Chapman said deployed military voters, including National Guard members, can apply for an absentee ballot through Monday by sending a fax ore email to their county's absentee election manager.  They man request electronic transmission of the absentee ballot.

Four Arrested

Montgomery police say four people were arrested Wednesday after officers found materials used to make methamphetamine at a residence on Bridle Path Lane.  Lt. Regina Duckett, a police spokeswoman, said three males and a female ere each charged with unlawful manufacture of a controlled substance.
