Dozens of Red Cross volunteers have been deployed along the East Coast to help with mobile feeeding and distribution of relief suppolies in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. Red Cross spokesmand Grover henry said several Emergency Response Vehicles are in New Jersey and Maryland. Henry said the ERV's contain food and other items used in cleanup efforts. The American Red Cross said the public can help storm victims by providing monetary donations. The relief agency also needs blood donations. Pay Raise The Alabama Education Association plans to lobby to get teachers and school support personnel a ten percent raise over the next two years if the money is available. AEA Executive Secretary Henry Mabry said it would be the first pay raise for eachers in five years. Hospital Closing The Alabama Department of Health has suspended the license of Clanton Hospital and closing its doors. The hospital operates as the Chilton Medical Center. it was given notice earlier this month that its license could be revoked. Public health officials said the action was taken because of the hospital's inability to meet its financial obligations. Suspect Captured Authorities in Pike County say a suspect wanted in connection with a weekend homicide has been captured in California. Troy police said 33-year-old Suroy Wheeler ws nabbed in Oxnard, California, late Monday afternoon. Wheeler is accused of killing 29-year-old Melissa Shipman on Saturday. The victim's body was found in an apartment. Wheeler awaits extradition to Alabama.
