Thousands of hornet fans will converge on the Alabama State University campus the third week in November for homecoming.

The crowd is expected to include swarms of tailgaters.  At last night's community meeting, Interim athletic director Melvin Hines explained the plans for the pre-game festivities.  He says RV tailgaters will have 70 spaces at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Field for $75 dollars.  Hines adds RVs will have to be gone by noon on Friday, November 23rd.  Tent tailgaters will be on the academic mall.  For all of the tailgating and other Turkey Day Classic information, go to www.newasustadium.com.

ADPH List

Public Health officials have released the names of 44 health care facilities in Alabama that received products from New England Compounding Center that have not been connected to a meningitis outbreak.  State Health Officer Dr. Don Williamson said Thursday patients who had procedures using the products after May 21st are being notified, even though there is no known contamination in the products shipped to Alabama.

Late Ballots

Alabama Secretary of State Beth Chapman says absentee ballots for military and overseas voters went out late from 22 counties and an extra 10 days is being provided for the return of the ballots.  Chapman said federal law gives military and overseas voters 45 days to receive and return their absentee ballots.  But not all ballots requested by the September 22nd deadline were sent out on time.  She is extending the deadline for election officials to receive the ballots by 10 days to November 16th.

USA Petition

Officials at the University of South Alabama have agreed to allow its student population to participate in a review into the October 6th shooting death of Gil Collar of Wetumpka.  The freshman was shot and killed by a campus police officer.  Al.com reports that a USA nursing student garnered more than 300 signatures on a petition that calls for the university in Mobile to establish protocol for responding to mental health or drug-induced emergencies using non-lethal methods.

Gas Prices

Gasoline prices are coming down.  They've fallen 15 cents in the last month and analysts predict they could fall another 115 cents to 45 cents over the next three weeks.  The national average pump price is now $3.71 per gallon.  That's still higher than ever for this time of the year.  According to Triple A Alabama, the statewide average price for regular is 20 centers lower than the national average at $3.52 a gallon, five cents less from a week ago.
