Another victim of gun-related violence has died in a Montgomery hospital. 

According to Montgomery police 18-year-old Justin Leonard died Sunday.  Police said Leonard was shot last Thursday night while he sat in a vehicle on Bonaparte Boulevard.  It was the city's 27th homicide this year.  Since September 30th, there have been six fatal shootings in Montgomery. 

Voluntary Retirement

Governor Robert Bentley will discuss details of a proposed voluntary retirement incentive program for state employees. The governor is holding a news conference today in Huntsville to explain how the program would work if approved by the Legislature.  The governor's office said the program would be offered to qualified state employees who are eligible for retirement at the time the plan is approved by legislators.

PSC President

Democrat Lucy Baxley and Republican Twinkle Andress Cavanaugh are battling each other again for Public Service Commission president, only this time the outcome could relegate the Alabama Democratic Party to minor party status.  The 74-year-old Baxley is the only Democrat currently holding a statewide office in Alabama.  Cavanaugh narrowly lost to Baxley in 2008.  Then she won a seat on the PSC in 2010 by beating Jan Cook, who was the longest-serving Democrat in statewide office.

Social Security

Social Security recipients will be receiving an increase in monthly benefits in January, but it's not likely to be very large.  Preliminary figures show the pay raise will be between one percent and two percent, among the lowest since automatic adjustments were adopted in 1975.  The raise will be made official Tuesday, when the government releases inflation figures for September.
