Allegations involving grade tampering has prompted Montgomery County School Superintendent  Barbara Thompson to launch an inquiry. 

Thompson told reporters Wednesday she plans to hire a retired FBI agent to look into the matter.  Thompson said she will discuss the matter with members of the County Board of Education at its meeting next week.

Life Sentences

A Ramar, Alabama man will spend the rest of his life behind bars.  Wednesday, a judge in Crenshaw County sentenced Antonio McNear to serve two life sentences for the August 2008 robbery-murders at a grocery store in Highland Home.  McNear was convicted in March of killing store owner Charles Kelley and store clerk Patricia Barganier.  A co-defendant, John Thomas, was also convicted for his role in the killings. He will serve life in prison without parole.

Private Home

Police say some broke into the private home of Governor Robert Bentley in Tuscaloosa.  A police statement issued Wednesday says officers responded to an alarm that went off at Bentley's home shortly before midnight on Sunday.  No arrests have been made.

Wireless Expansion

A small cell phone company has won a more than $10 million dollar federal grant to expand wireless service in one of Alabama's most isolated regions.  The Federal Communications Commission says Pine Belt Cellular was the only company that sought the money to build new cell phone infrastructure along almost 1600 miles of roads in five west Alabama counties.  The company faces a three-year deadline to establish at least 3G service in the region, where broad areas lack any cell phone service. 

Cases Increase

The State Health Department says the number of West Nile Virus cases have increased.  Statewide, there are now 31 human cases.  Montgomery County leads the state with eight confirmed cases of West Nile.
