Changes are being made at the Montgomery City Jail. 

A news conference was held Tuesday afternoon, Montgomery Police Chief Kevin Murphy said the warden of the city jail, James Carer, has been reassigned after an investigation found what the police chief called a "degradation of safety protocols."  The police department's Chief of Staff Brenda Mitchell has been placed in charge of the city jail for now. 

Guilty Plea

The state attorney general's office has secured a guilty plea in an investigation of two-year college corruption.  Attorney General Luther Strange said Jimmie Clements pleaded guilty Tuesday in Lee County to one count of theft of property.  He received a 15-year suspended sentence with five years of probation.  He must also pay $256,ooo  dollars in restitution.

Romney Visit

Mitt Romney is coming to Alabama to raise money for his Republican presidential campaign.  Romney will be in Birmingham for a reception being held tonight at a private club.  Romney last visited Alabama in March, when he finished third in the state's GOP presidential primary. 

Attempted Escape

A 21-year-old woman is facing a second charge of trying to help her brother break out of the Elmore County Jail in Wetumpka.  Elmore County Sheriff's officials said Tuesday that Jessica Caspari is locked up on a charge of facilitating escape.  She's accused of working with another woman to get information to her brother about the design of the jail.  Her sibling, Josh Caspari, awaits trial on a capital murder charge for the February 15th murder of Anna Cardwell.
