Forecasters say more storms are headed toward the state, but still more rain is needed to break a worsening drought.  The National weather Service reports that there is an 80 percent chance of rain the central Alabama, and a 6- percent chance on the coast.   The rain is needed since nearly 92 percent of the state's acreage is now abnormally dry or in a full-blown drought. 

MPS Groundbreaking

It's a big day for Montgomery Public Schools.  A groundbreaking was held today for the new Park Crossing High School in east Montgomery.  The new high school will be located on the New Park Crossing Road that links Taylor Road to Ray Thorington Road adjacent to the Hampstead Subdivision. 

Grand Jury

Montgomery attorney Susan James is not surprised that her client's case has been referred to a grand jury.  She is representing Desmontae Leonard who is facing three capital murder and two second degree assault charges related to a shooting that occurred during a party held June 9 at Auburn's University Heights apartment complex.

Casino Expansion

A Native American tribe is expanding its casino in Wetumpka into deluxe resort.  Wednesday, officials with the Poarch Band of Creek Indians said they will make a $246 million dollar investment at Wind Creek Wetumpka off U.S. Highway 231, construction has already started.  Tribal officials said the new resort will include a 20-story hotel tower with 285 rooms and suites.

State PACT

The Alabama Supreme Court has reopened a lawsuit over whether a financial settlement of Alabama's prepaid college tuition program can stand.  The board of the Prepaid Affordable College Tuition plan had reached a settlement for the financially troubled program to pay tuition at 2010 rates rather than current rates.  Some parents challenged it in court, and the Supreme Court voided the settlement in March because it violated state law.  Then the Legislature passed a law in April that was designed to restore the settlement.
