What's Fun About 5? Songs, Hugs And Kisses

MICHEL MARTIN, HOST:

We've had a great time all this week celebrating TELL ME MORE's fifth anniversary on the air and, as part of that celebration, we put a call out on Facebook. We wanted to hear from some of our 5-year-old listeners. We received hundreds of responses, and here are just a few telling us what's so special about being 5.

OLIVIA WILLIAMS: Hi. My name is Olivia Williams. Being 5 is so special because 5-year-olds are the fastest runners. They have the longest legs and a lot of energy.

ISAIAH CARROLL: Hi. My name is Isaiah Carroll. When I turned 5 years old, I was happy because I got a bunch of (unintelligible). Mama lets me carry the baby. That's my most favorite thing about being 5.

ILA BROOKS: Hi. My name is Ila. Being 5 means I love to sing. Twinkle, twinkle, little star. I forget the words sometimes.

MARTIN: And that was Olivia Williams, Isaiah Carroll and Ila Brooks, who are all 5. And we have just one more that we had to share. This is mom-and-daughter team Tereza Nemessanyi and Marta Hulme of Pound Ridge, New York.

TEREZA NEMESSANYI: What does it mean to be 5?

MARTA HULME: It means that you don't cry. You don't be mean.

NEMESSANYI: Oh, those are wise. So you learned to do those things?

HULME: Yes.

NEMESSANYI: Oh.

HULME: My brain taught me.

NEMESSANYI: What do you like about being 5? What does it mean you can do?

HULME: Play with mommy and kiss her and hug her.

NEMESSANYI: Oh.

MARTIN: And, tomorrow, we wrap up this anniversary week with a number of 5-year-olds right here in the studio with me as we conclude the celebration of our first five years on the air. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
