Vestavia Hills Physician To Serve 30 Months in Prison

A Vestavia Hills physician has been sentenced to 30 months in prison after illegally dispensing narcotic painkillers without legitimate medical reason.  U.S. Attorney Joyce White Vance announced in a news release on Friday that a judge has sentenced 51-year-old Dr. Muhammand Wasim Ali on 10 counts of unlawfully distributing controlled substances.  Ali had pleaded guilty to the charges in November.  The judge also ordered him to forfeit $2,450 to the government and fined him $85,000.  Ali will be placed on supervised release for three years following his prison term.  He has surrendered his medical license.
