Tuskegee University Students Recovering

Authorities say four Tuskegee University students were wounded by gunfire in an off-campus shooting.  Tuskegee Police Chief Lester Patrick said officers responded to the shooting around 12:45 a.m. Sunday, where the students had been at a party.  Patrick tells the Opelika-Auburn newspaper that two of the students are listed in stable condition at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika.  He said two other students were released from the hospital Sunday morning.  Tuskegee University said in a statement that all the students are expected to recover from their injuries.  The newspaper reports that a fifth person, who is not a student, was also wounded but did not seek treatment at the hospital.  

Weekend Traffic Fatalities

State Troopers are investigating traffic fatalities in Bullock and Macon counties.  Troopers say a Montgomery teenager was killed Sunday morning just after 6 a.m. in a single car crash near Union Springs.  18-year-old Jacob Louis Jinright died when the SUV he was driving crashed and overturned on Alabama 29, two miles north of Union Springs.  

A deadly wreck in Macon County claimed the life of a a Greenville man on Saturday.  Troopers said 55-year-old Thomas Lee Bentley was killed when the car he was driving crashed and overturned on Macon County 54, four miles west of Notasulga.  Troopers said Bentley was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle.  

Tuskegee Airmen Deaths

Two more members of the famed Tuskegee Airmen have died.  Relatives say Clarence E. Huntley Jr. and Joseph Shambrey, both 91 died last Monday in their Los Angeles homes.  Huntley and Shambrey were life long friends who enlisted together in 1942.  They served as mechanics in Italy during World War II and kept the planes of the all-black squadron in the air.  

Golden Globe

The highly acclaimed movie "Selma" won a Golden Globe Sunday night for best original song.  The tune is performed by John Legend and Common.  The movie depicts the Selma to Montgomery Voting Rights March in 1965.  "Selma" opened in theaters on Friday, including the Chantilly Theater in east Montgomery.  Selma Mayor George Evans said the film delivers a powerful message about sacrifice.
